310 Children Served by Dorcas CDC
Deliverance Church Dorcas Child Development Centre in cooperation with Compassion International support 310 children of which 61 are total orphans.
The mission statement of the center states, "In response to the great commission, we exist for the purpose of ministering to the needy children by providing opportunities for their spiritual, social physical and economic development to enable them to become responsible and fulfilled Christian adults."
The vision statement states, " Deliverance Church Dorcas Child Development Centre seeks to be used by God to build his kingdom by discipling children into the fullness of Christ."
Although the project's focus is the child, some of the activities address the welfare and economic empowerment of the parents and guardians, proving food supplements, loan programs and counseling services specifically to HIV/AIDS infected parents.
Children Aspire to Excellence
In 1999 King Jesus Academy-Nursery School opened to provide education and spiritual nourishment to all children in the community at an affordable fee. The school's motto is "Aspire to Excellence" though hard work, good academic performance and spiritual growth. The academy has grown to have an enrollment of forty children with an additional twenty-five children who are orphaned or in vulnerable situations soon to be added.
There are three classes 1)the Baby Class ages 2 1/2-3 years old, 2) Middle Class ages 4-5 years old, 3) Pre-unit Final Class ages 6-7 years. The school is managed by nine committee members appointed from the church and four teachers under the supervision of Bishop Paul O. Oselu, the founder.
Over the past few years the school has achieved a good academic reputation, disciplined children, spiritual growth and nourishment through simple gospel songs, memory verses, short prayers and Bible stories during daily morning devotions along with providing a centralized feeding program to all the children during the morning porridge break.
The management committee of the school desires to provide more classrooms to serve more children, better equip the school with books and play materiala, provide a lunch program for the children and transportation to and from their homes. Future plans include beginning a primary school, then a secondary school and finally a university to provide continuity of education and spiritual development as the children progress to adulthood. If you are interested in assisting the educational development activities at the church please e-mail Bishop Oselu at oselup@yahoo.com or Mrs. Perez Oselu at perezanyango06@yahoo.com.
